As of Friday, Jenner hadn’t attended any films, but she was at the Secret Chopard Party that night, wearing a short, sheer green Alexandre Vauthier minidress blinged out with glitter (and accessorized with Chopard earrings, of course) that caught the camera flashes. No bra, no worries.
On Monday more than 300 women in the entertainment industry, including actresses, producers, agents, and lawyers, came together to announce a new sexual harassment action plan known as Time’s Up, with a goal to end the imbalance of gender power across all industries.
In an open letter about the initiative, the women not only announced a legal defense fund and push for new legislation as part of this initiative but also confirmed reports that many actors and actresses planned to wear all black to this Sunday’s Golden Globes in solidarity with survivors of sexual harassment. And it looks like this protest will be even more visible on the red carpet than previously thought: According to The Hollywood Reporter, participants will also be wearing a specially designed pin meant to draw further attention to the cause.
Whereas last awards season, many attendees pinned blue ACLU ribbons to their red-carpet looks, you can expect to see many black-and-white pins that read “Time’s Up” this time around. They were designed by famed costume designer Arianne Phillips and commissioned by Reese Witherspoon, one of the initiative’s lead backers and a 2018 Golden Globe nominee, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Reese asked me to come to the actor’s group [at a planning session for Time's Up], and told me they were going to be wearing black and would I consider creating a pin for the nominees and male presenters,” Phillips told the publication. “We were up against the holidays, but I said I could do it, and the first person I called was my partner-in-crime [L.A. jewelry designer] Michael Schmidt.”
If there’s anyone who could elevate the millennial pink trend to the next level, it’s Rihanna—and that’s exactly what she did while attending the premiere of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets in Los Angeles on Monday.
The “Work” singer wore an elaborate cupcake-esque pale pink dress by Giambattista Valli Couture to celebrate the new film, in which she stars as Bubble, a shape-shifting alien known as a “glampod.” The glamorous gown featured an off-the-shoulder neckline, super-puffy sleeves, a cinched waist, and a high-low hemline with several yards of fluffy tulle trailing behind. She paired the high-fashion dress with matching pale pink Manolo Blahnik gladiator-style stilettos with laces that crisscrossed up to her knees, and she accessorized with several sparkly rings on her fingers, large hoop earrings, dewy pink-toned makeup, and a super-high ponytail.
Rihanna posted several pics from the sci-fi film’s premiere on Instagram. “When u show up uninvited,” she captioned one photo in which she smizes straight at the camera. #VALERIAN,” she wrote on a full-length shot that captured her gown’s entire cotton-candy train.
Recently the swimdress has seen a much welcomed return to the fashion scene, even though it has never really gone out of style. For recent years, the swim dress has been considered to be swimwear for the aged or mature lady. But this is no longer the case.
Swim dresses today are styled in the same way as many other dresses, with both formfitting and flared being equally popular. The added benefit is that these dresses are mostly made from UV resistant materials, providing protection, while making you look like a movie star. This along with the vast selection available, makes the swimdress popular. Swimdresses incorporate almost any imaginable color and print. You will probably end up wanting a different one for each day of the week. There will also be no more awkward bending to rub sunscreen on those hard to reach places,. Sorry boys, shows over.
The sundress is designed with the female form in mind. Its cut is figure flattering. Although less provocative than usual swimwear, it allows a certain level of elegance to the wearer. It provides a sexy and stylish finish, whilst its wearer can exhibit a carefree and confidant nature, knowing that they look great.
However, many may consider the Swimdress useful to cover up imperfections, it is not always the case. All women know how to best disguise their unwanted features, but will tell you it at times it can be very challenging. By comparing a swim dress to a cover all, it is as good as labeling it a sack. Well that would be fine if you could pull off the sack look with any success, but seeing as most of us cannot, you will still need to apply the basic style rules when selecting or wearing a swim dress.
The last time we saw Pippa Middleton in a white dress, it was at sister Kate’s 2011 wedding to Prince William. Pippa’s white bridesmaid’s dress, with its close-to-the-body cut and elegant line of buttons up the back, wound up getting almost as much attention as Kate’s white Alexander McQueen–designed wedding dress. Just over six years later, we’re pretty certain that all eyes (and headlines) will be on the wedding gown Pippa wore on Saturday as she married London financier James Matthews in a Berkshire, England, ceremony.
Created by British designer Giles Deacon, Pippa’s wedding gown is couture (Deacon does only made-to-order gowns), just as Kate’s was. Like her older sister, Pippa also went for a timeless look: Her gown features a classic corseted bodice, allover lace, a high neck, and a heart-shaped keyhole back. The cap sleeves are perfect for a British spring wedding, and the look is topped off by an elegant (and what looks like chapel-length) tulle and pearl veil and demure drop-pearl earrings.
Duncan further described the dress to the Telegraph: “The bespoke silk cotton lace was hand appliquéd to create an illusion of the dress having ‘no seams.’ The lace bodice is embroidered with pearl detailing over an organza and tulle underskirt, which has layer upon layer to enable a floor sweeping movement.”
Sounds like a gown fit for royalty to us! Ready for your first look?
